NDENGU stew – a nutritious meal at CBCH!

150 children at Cherry Brierley Children’s Home are served a sustaining meal every day (except Sundays). In the picture, Dominick is cooking NDENGU (polished green grams) stew with rice.

The recipe: Green grams (Ndengu) stew with rice

Ingredients:

    1. Polished Green grams (you can use any other beans)
    2. Tomatoes
    3. Onions
    4. Salt
    5. Spice (of your choice)
    6. Cooking oil
    7. Rice

Cooking Instructions:

    • Wash and boil the green grams until soft, around 45 minutes. Drain the water and keep it aside for the stew.
    • Put the oil, chopped onion, and fry in a separate saucepan on low heat.
    • Chop the tomatoes and add them to the onions. Add the salt, stir, and cover to cook on low heat for 2 minutes until the tomatoes soften.
    • Add the green grams, stir, and cover. Stir after 5 minutes, then cover and cook for another 5 minutes.
    • Mix the spice with 1 cup of the previously strained water in a small bowl. Add to the green grams and stir. Cover and cook for 5 minutes.

Then serve with rice and enjoy!

One lunch for one child costs only approximately 44 pence. However, to feed 150 children for a month, we need nearly £2,000.

Will you consider helping us provide food for poor children and invest in their lives? No matter how small, any amount makes a difference and brings hope for a better future. With your prayers and support, the KCT will continue to reach more needy children.
